Our 11 October piece on the microdrama machine cited Deloitte's $7.8B. Other published figures are higher, and they are not directly comparable.

Our 11 October piece on the microdrama machine cited Deloitte's $7.8B. Other published figures are higher, and they are not directly comparable. Each depends on what is being counted.

## The figures

- $7.8B, Deloitte, as cited in our earlier piece. Check the year and scope against the Deloitte source before comparing.
- About $11B in 2025 and a projected $14B in 2026. An eMarketer explainer attributes these to Omdia.
- $1.5B in the US in 2026. The same explainer says the US will hold 50 percent of microdrama revenue outside China. That implies roughly $3B outside China, which is our arithmetic and not a published figure.
- App-level numbers. The explainer reports in-app revenue of $130M for ReelShort and $120M for DramaBox in Q1 2025, up 31 percent and 29 percent, and more than 2.3B app downloads globally in 2025. No source is named for those.

## Why they differ

The sources we reviewed do not say whether the headline figures count consumer spending, total revenue including advertising, or in-app purchases only. Microdrama apps mix paid episode unlocks with ads, so those definitions can give very different totals. Estimates also differ in geographic scope, with or without China, in year, and in whether they are forecasts or reported results.

## Find the original document

Find the publisher and the original document, not just the article quoting it.

## Check what the figure counts

Check whether the figure is revenue, consumer spend, or something else.

## Check the geography and the year

A global total and a total that excludes China are different numbers, even when the headlines look alike.

## Treat a forecast as a forecast

A projection for 2026 is not a reported result for 2025.

## Do not add figures from different sources

They are not the same total, and adding them produces a number nobody published.

## Why producers should care

A budget model for a vertical series depends on the revenue side. If your plan assumes a $14B market, you should know whether that includes ad revenue you cannot access. Episodes run roughly one to two minutes, so cost per finished minute and the number of episodes per series matter more than the global headline. Our per-second price check applies here: compare cost per finished minute against a realistic revenue per series.

## What to watch

The Omdia and Deloitte source documents, and platform disclosures on how much AI-generated work they carry. Platform figures would be more useful than any market-wide estimate.
