Kling 4.0 accepts up to 15 references, split into images, videos, elements, and voice profiles. Keyframes are a separate mode, and the video clips share one 30-second quota.

Kling's user guide caps one task at 15 reference inputs, and the cap is split by type. The 16 October press release calls the character slots subjects. The guide calls them elements. Plan the split.

## The limits in the guide

- 15 inputs in total, across images, videos, voice profiles, and elements.
- Up to 10 images.
- Up to 5 videos, each 3 to 30 seconds, 30 seconds combined.
- Up to 7 elements, including up to 3 video elements. Footage used to create a video element must be 3 to 8 seconds.
- Up to 3 voice profiles.
- Reference videos, videos you are editing, and video elements share one quota: 5 clips and 30 seconds.
- Up to 10 keyframes, on a separate entry point. The guide says Omni Reference and Keyframes cannot be combined in one task.
- Video editing accepts up to 5 clips, including one primary clip, at 30 seconds combined.

The guide lists those caps side by side inside the total of 15. It does not say whether an element is also counted against the 10 images. Check that before you build a template around the numbers.

## Why the split is the working limit

Our 12 October reference-ceiling piece said to test where quality peaks, because the advertised slot count will not tell you. Kling's split is where to start that test. Images fix looks. Videos carry motion. Elements hold a character or object across shots. A costume still, a motion clip, and an element card can each pull the result somewhere else.

## A budget for a typical shot

- One element per principal character. Two or three in a shot is plenty.
- One or two images for location and lighting.
- One short video only when you need a specific move, kept well under the shared 30-second quota.
- Keyframes when the start and end poses matter. That is a different task from the reference stack.
- Leave slots empty. An empty slot is easier to debug than a full tray.

## A test

Generate the same 10-second shot with elements only, then add images, then add a video reference, and keep the prompt fixed. Score identity, lighting, and motion separately, and note where the result peaks. That peak is your working limit on this model.

## Price and the features still pending

Kuaishou's release still treats HDR, extension out to two minutes, and developer API access as forthcoming, and neither the release nor the guide publishes a price. Draft on the route you can already run. Spend on finals once you know the price. RenderBob lets you choose local or cloud for each clip and keep the references with the studio.

## What to watch

Whether Kling's documentation says an element also counts as an image, independent tests of the cap, and a published price for 4.0.
